Inspire 2015

It’s been so long that I almost forgot how to log on to the blog.

Life has been THAT insane.

2015 started off with a quiet bang. I was getting settled into my new town, a new career as a real estate agent, and trying on my One Word for size.

My One Word for 2015

My One Word for 2015

WOW. I had no idea where Inspire would take me. I spent my 2015 New Year’s Day cutting and glueing my dreams on a piece of poster board. I prayed, I set goals, and I dared to dream a little bigger than I ever have in my whole life.

I imagined a life where my family would be out of debt and we would be settled into a home. I also spent the day holed up setting some pretty crazy professional goals.

Twelve months later….

Check, check, and check.

I still can’t believe it. 2015 has certainly been inspiring.

Some would say it was freak luck, the stars were just aligned, or just that my bad patch had run it’s course.

Sheepadoodle Saturday

Monroe "Stormageddon" Abel

I have a hard time with focusing on now. I always have. I like the future.

When I first took the Clifton Strength Finder I was validated. There it was. Futuristic.

Yesterday has moved on and the present is just a space for me to think about tomorrow. It is how God has wired me. I have always processed this way. It makes me a pretty optimistic even through difficult times. Just like little Orphan Annie, I find myself thinking about tomorrow.

But when you spend so much time thinking about tomorrow, you can become useless in the right now.

Today becomes difficult to enjoy. Sometimes I am not  aware of the blessings that are right in front of my face because I can have the tendency to mentally escape to the future. What do I need to do to get ready for ___? Where else do I need to be? Who do I need to talk with?

Determined in 2013

Last year was a life changer.

I don’t say that lightly either. So many of you shared the ups and downs with our family as we gave up our horrid eating habits.

I felt so much love and encouragement when I achieved a 15-year goal of hiking Pikes Peak.

I received prayers from strangers after they read my funny and tough moments through Fridays with Freda.

The Week Between

This week is my favorite of the whole year—this week between Christmas and New Years Day.

Christmas Advent

The week I clean the house, fix hot meals, slow down to actually think.

The week that I journal, and dream up new book ideas that I will not write and watch movies with my kids. I also tend to work out like a mad woman because I ate too much on Christmas.

Abiding in Praise ~ A Psalm for Vocation

Yesterday I posted this status on Facebook. As I read over it later, and talked with folks who inquired privately about my passion for my work something dawned on me. I realized what I had posted was kind of personal psalm to the Lord:

The stillness of this house and the beautiful light that comes shining through on Fridays when I am here by myself is rest for my soul. I know the calm comes after an evening of intense ministry where hurting families have gathered to find peace. The ticking of the clock serves as a wonderful reminder to me of the rhythm of ministry that has taken place here for 70 years. I am thankful to be apart of it ~Family Life Services.

Let me explain… [Read more…]

Friday with Freda ~ A Guest Post

This week’s Friday with Freda is a guest blog from my friend Ivette Diaz. Ivette has a unique perspective on our family because sometimes when Jeff and I have to leave town for rm2g business, she stays with the kids and grandma. She is a true blessing to me, and has a heart for family unlike anyone else I have ever known. I hope you enjoy Ivette’s reflections, and take the time to check out her personal blog. She is a beautiful woman of God with an amazing heart.

Getting to spend time with Freda and the kiddos in Jeff and Julie’s absence has been a gift. It’s allowed me get to know these three in  much more personal way and we’ve made some great memories while we’re at it: Dance parties in the living room,  dishwasher mishaps (may the Ice Cream Scoop rest in peace) a picnic at the park and even done some aerobics led by Freda herself! But more than memory-making, I’ve also learned a lot from this bunch, especially Freda.

Friday with Freda ~ Role of Responsibility

My grandma is getting old.

I know, you’re shocked. Because for six months now I have been talking on Fridays about the funny things she says and does and how she is in such amazing shape for someone who is eighty nine.

She inspires me.

But the last month it has started to seem like she is getting old.

A Fun Little Jeep Announcement

Remember a few weeks ago when I shared that I had been praying for something for weeks, but the answer came back loud and clear NO? Yeah, that was not a fun day.

Then something unexpected happened that was a huge YES. Remember? Well I finally get to share with everyone what happened.

Over on the Rocky Mountain Media Group blog today Jeff and I announced to our friends and clients about being contacted by corporate Jeep and being asked to be brand advocates. You can read all about the official announcement here.

Praying for One Thing and Getting Another

I have been praying for something specific for months. EVERYDAY.

Not to be a martyr or anything, but I think I could give the persistent widow a run for her money.

Remember Esau? I’ve also have felt like him too. Begging God “Bless me Father. Don’t you have a special blessing for me?”

God answered my prayer request a few weeks ago in a specific way. He has said “NO“. It was loud and clear. I’m still spinning a bit. It was a huge downer. I know God is not a genie, bla bla bla. But I really thought He would answer the way I wanted because, you know I’m so persuasive and all.

But then something cool happened.
