Sunday Morning at Sprague Lake

Sunset at Bear Lake, Longs Peak

We’ve been going 100 miles and hour, but the last few days Jeff and I have been able to steal away some quiet moments in our new playground.

Sometimes it’s a drive through waiting on the kids to finish up with practice. Sometimes it’s a quiet Sunday sunrise like the one we witnessed at Sprague Lake. We live in a wonderland. Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and we are blessed to live here.

This was the light just as we walked up to the Sprague Lake:

Career Change 2.0

What are you doing here?

It’s a question that was first presented to me through an old Jewish parable. Essentially the gist is everyone should wake up everyday, look in the mirror, and ask yourself this simple question:

What are you doing here?

What are you doing here?

It’s a question I’ve tried to ask myself almost everyday for years. Sometimes there’ve been seasons in my life when I’ve forgotten to wake up and ask it. When this happens, I tend to get lost.

Five Good and Perfect Gifts

This year has been hard. And good. And perfect.

My view in the Jeep

This Christmas season when I have actually had time to reflect, I keep coming back to one of my favorite verses.

Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. ~ James 1:17 NLT

I’ve had some good and perfect gifts come down from heaven this year.

Once Around the Sun

Colorado SkyWe have a book in our family room purchased in 2007 on a vacation to Yellowstone National Park.

Once Around the Sun.

It is one of those books where I almost love the title as much as the actual pictures in the book. The whole concept the author/photographer was going for is to show the ebb and flow of nature throughout one whole year in America’s first national park.

This year my life has had a once around the sun feel to it.

This time last year the holidays started off rough. I was moving my grandma into assisted living. I was also beginning a season about this time last year that rocked my world and forced me to work through some tough family junk and grief that I had left unresolved in my heart for years. Eventually with a lot of grace, I began to open up myself to healing and new possibilities. [Read more…]

This Has Legs

This has legs

It is a strange saying. One I use often. A saying I can identify with.

It reminds me of when I was in junior high and my friends called me Bird.

Kids called me Bird because I had long knobby ostrich legs that didn’t quite fit the rest of my body.

The nickname stuck.

Thanks to Facebook sometimes the Bird reference resurfaces.

Like I said, I don’t mind because it reminds me where I am right now with work, and my work is personal. So there is a connection. Hang with me here…

I’ve got several projects in the cooker that I find myself saying to myself and others~ This has legs.

Projects and ideas that  God willing, have the potential to get up off the couch and walk down the road. All on their own. Ideas that could inspire others.

Honestly? These ideas scare me a bit. But those are the best ideas to feed aren’t they? They ones that intimidate you, stretch you? The ones that you know once they start moving forward will change you, change others, and give hope. The ones that require sacrifice and determination.

Determined in 2013

Last year was a life changer.

I don’t say that lightly either. So many of you shared the ups and downs with our family as we gave up our horrid eating habits.

My former bread area #jeffscrazyidea

I felt so much love and encouragement when I achieved a 15-year goal of hiking Pikes Peak.

I received prayers from strangers after they read my funny and tough moments through Fridays with Freda.

The Week Between

This week is my favorite of the whole year—this week between Christmas and New Years Day.

Christmas Advent

The week I clean the house, fix hot meals, slow down to actually think.

The week that I journal, and dream up new book ideas that I will not write and watch movies with my kids. I also tend to work out like a mad woman because I ate too much on Christmas.

Friday with Freda ~ Assisted Living is Kind of Like College

Thank you friends for all of your prayers yesterday. It took all day, but Jeff and I were able to get Grandma all set up in her new digs. I am excited that I was able to find a place for her that is a true assisted living facility that suits her needs. It also helps that this place is only two minutes from my work. So I have quick access during my lunch and after work to visit her.

Freda right away has fallen in love with the staff. She is excited to have her own room now, and although she hasn’t said it, I’m pretty sure she likes the idea being off the Jeff’s Crazy Idea routine a bit. They served spaghetti and garlic bread last night for dinner and she was in heaven. [Read more…]

To Forge A New Trail

This verse always seems to creep up on me when I find myself in any kind of season of change or new opportunity. I know that I am not the first pilgrim who has walked this earth who has drawn strength and excitement from the words of Isaiah the Prophet:

For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. Isaiah 43: 19 NLT

I got a visual picture of this a few weeks ago when I was in Pennsylvania on a trip to the Laurel Highlands Jeep Jamboree. Jeff and I got an amazing opportunity to go to this event and represent Jeep as band advocates. There in the middle of a tree dense forest, our Jeep Rubicon started making a new pathway through the wilderness. [Read more…]

It is Almost Here…Jeep Jamboree in Laurel Highlands PA

Tomorrow Jeff and I board a plane to take us to Pennsylvania. I can hardly believe that the Jeep Jamboree Laurel Highlands is almost here. I caught this on The Vermont Jeep Girl’s Facebook page this week and it totally got me stoked for the upcoming trip (and yes, I just used the word stoked):

This week I am finding myself needing a little escape from the normal.
