Determined in 2013

Last year was a life changer.

I don’t say that lightly either. So many of you shared the ups and downs with our family as we gave up our horrid eating habits.

I felt so much love and encouragement when I achieved a 15-year goal of hiking Pikes Peak.

I received prayers from strangers after they read my funny and tough moments through Fridays with Freda.

What Are You Going to Do About It Today?

Our communities are going through hell.

Being a parent, spouse, employee and citizen has taken on a new demand for our level of engagement.

Watching the news this weekend, I just kept thinking what am I going to do about it?

Rest In Him

I’ve had a few rough weeks. OK, let me rephrase that. They were more than rough. They were a personal cheese grater.

It was emotional, busy, and just one of those seasons you just find yourself having to get through.

The last few days I have had a chance to regroup, catch my breath and rest in Him. All in beautiful Steamboat Springs, CO.

Abiding has looked like this…

One of Those Did That Really Happen? Kind of Weeks

Let all those who fear the LORD repeat: “His faithful love endures forever. In my distress I prayed to the LORD, and the LORD answered me and set me free. The LORD is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me? Yes the LORD is for me, he will help me. ~Psalm 118:4-7 NLT

I am finding myself crawling out of one of those “did that really happen?” kind of weeks.

You know the kind?

The kind that leaves your head and heart spinning.

A Christian Who Loves Halloween

Hello. My name is Julie and I am a Christian who loves Halloween.

It is actually my favorite holiday. I don’t apologize for it any more or feel guilty about it. I used to but now I embrace it. Indulge me a bit as I tell you little bit why…

As a child this holiday brought me so much fun and happy family memories. My mom and dad took me to Halloween events, haunted houses, and GASP let me watch horror movies with my older brother. My parents also allowed me to read scary stories, and create over the top crazy costumes every year for my school parties. At these parties, I would win prizes almost every year, because of the creativity they allowed me to display.

Liebster Blog Awards

Recently my friend Sarah Warren over at The Accidental Okie nominated my blog for a Liebster Award. Liebster is German, it means precious and dear.

The Liebster blog awards are one of the things that makes blogging with friends fun. This award is for up-and-coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers.  After Sarah nominated me, I had to write a blog post telling 11 things about me and answering 11 questions from Sarah.  Next, I got to nominate a few of my favorite bloggers and ask them 11 questions as well. I love it that this process is all about networking smaller blogs that may not have the exposure of the biggies.

Thanks Sarah for your dear heart, your nomination is so sweet! Everyone needs to check out your amazing blog as well. You like me, you really like me!

Here are my questions from Sarah with my answers:

  1. As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up? I wanted so badly to be a country music singer, until I realized I couldn’t sing, then I changed that to wanting to be either a news anchor or writer. The writer bit hasn’t changed, but I know my calling is truly helping those who are in need within their local communities. No kid ever wakes up and says, “I want to be a non-profit leader when I grow up.” But that has been His path for me. So that is the one I accept and love. [Read more…]

Never Give Up!

This Saturday abide with these inspired words from Paul:

We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus, will also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself together with you. (Now that is abiding friends!)

All of this is for your benefit. And as God’s grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will recieve more and more glory. That is why we never give up. Through our bodies are dying, or spirits are being renewed every day.  ~2 Corinthians 4:14-16 NLT

How are you abiding in the Lord this weekend? [Read more…]

Hiking a 14er

I can’t believe I’m doing this again.

Earlier this Summer when I climbed Pike’s Peak for the first time, I thought I was getting hooked. Smitten with a newfound love.

But still, I can’t believe I’m doing this again. Hiking a 14er. The very concept seems so strange for a suburban mommy who drives a Ford Freestyle and runs carpool between business meetings. I also like saying I’m hiking a 14er too, because it makes me feel so…not boring.
