Liebster Blog Awards

Recently my friend Sarah Warren over at The Accidental Okie nominated my blog for a Liebster Award. Liebster is German, it means precious and dear.

The Liebster blog awards are one of the things that makes blogging with friends fun. This award is for up-and-coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers.  After Sarah nominated me, I had to write a blog post telling 11 things about me and answering 11 questions from Sarah.  Next, I got to nominate a few of my favorite bloggers and ask them 11 questions as well. I love it that this process is all about networking smaller blogs that may not have the exposure of the biggies.

Thanks Sarah for your dear heart, your nomination is so sweet! Everyone needs to check out your amazing blog as well. You like me, you really like me!

Here are my questions from Sarah with my answers:

  1. As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up? I wanted so badly to be a country music singer, until I realized I couldn’t sing, then I changed that to wanting to be either a news anchor or writer. The writer bit hasn’t changed, but I know my calling is truly helping those who are in need within their local communities. No kid ever wakes up and says, “I want to be a non-profit leader when I grow up.” But that has been His path for me. So that is the one I accept and love.
  2. If you had $10,000 to spend on whatever you want, what would it be? (In this scenario, you have all the money you need in checking, savings, college funds, 401k’s, etc). No doubt, I would buy my husband a lift kit and 37 inch tires for our Jeep Rubicon, then I would donate the rest to Family Life Services the amazing non-profit where I work.
  3. What is your dream vacation? Anywhere inside a National Park.
  4. What is your most used kitchen tool? The coffee grinder.
  5. What was your greatest accomplishment of the past five years? Getting to a place physically where I could hike Pikes Peak and then another Colorado 14er just three weeks later.
  6. How do you deal with negative comments on your blog? You know I let people be people. If someone has something negative to say I leave it up try to respond love. “Kill em’ with kindness” as the old saying goes. But unless it is downright nasty and profane, all comments stay on my blog to keep it real.
  7. Are you pro or anti PDA (public displays of affection)? Not so much.
  8. What parameters do you place on your blog?  Are there things you won’t blog about? I never blog about politics. Ever.
  9. What has been the greatest aha moment of your life? A few years ago the night before Thanksgiving I was expecting about 30 guests to my house the next day. I was peeling what seemed like endless piles of potatoes and I realized, “Oh crap, I’m a grown up!”Up until that moment I had never seen myself as a responsible adult. Sharing a simple holiday with friends and family made me come into my own skin a bit. It was a holy experience.
  10. If you could be friends with a literary character, who would you choose? I guess I should say someone high and lofty like a heroine from a Jane Austen novel, but honestly, I would love to have tea with Mrs. Weasley from the Harry Potter books.
  11. Two-part question: What do you find most challenging and most rewarding about blogging? What I find most challenging about blogging is consistency. I struggle with this every week. But the most rewarding is to look back on where God has taken me along my journey. Blogging gives you that snapshot, like a photo album, only with words. I love that.
I am thrilled to now be able to nominate a few fellow bloggers for the Leibster Blog Award!  Here are a few of my favorite small blogs and my 11 questions for them.  Now some of the people I nominate may have more than 200 followers – but I’m not sure, so please don’t be offended if I nominated you!  I’m not trying to minimize your reach, but simply spread the bloggy love.
Oikosliving – Cheryl Smith- Cheryl is taking her blogging friends on an amazing journey through her True Vine Challenge. I am honored to participate with them. Check out her blog it will encourage your heart.
KintzFactor – Carrie Kintz is brilliant, and honestly should have been born a Brit. But I see at her as America’s gift to redeem a generation. Check out her recent series called “The Story“. God is using this story to inspire so many women to be all God has created them to be.
LivinginGRACEland – My amazing sister-in-law, Jennifer Hatcher is so many things. A wife, mom to six kids, a writer, editor, former missionary, joke teller, and now a church children’s director. I’m worn out even thinking about her life. But she handles it all with such grace. Her blog is a reflection of her heart and family.
NancyParkerBrummett – My beautiful friend Nancy Brummett has made the jump from being considered an “old-school” published author, to blogger extrodinar! Nancy has shown me me that anyone can dive into the world of social media and and share their journey with others in this space.
Here are my questions for them:
1. Morning or night owl?
2. Guilty pleasure song?
3. Most inspiring woman to you and why?
4. Favorite season?
5. What lesson do you keep learning over and over again?
6. Where do you find inspiration for your blog?
7. What has been your greatest accomplishment of the last five years?
8. If you knew you were having your last meal tonight, what would it be?
9. Biggest time suck of your life right now?
10. Most people would say you are (fill in the blank- one word).
11. One thing most people would never guess about you.
My nominees can now share the Liebster love. Now it’s your turn.  Write a post on your blog where you:
  • Answer the following questions
  • Write 11 things about yourself
  • Nominate no more than 11 bloggers for the liebster blog awards with less than 200 followers
  • Draft 11 questions for your nominees to answer
