Fridays with Freda ~ Troubles and Peace

Many of you have asked me since the Waldo Canyon Fire broke out how Freda is doing. Constant news of a natural disaster like this can make seniors anxious and I have been worried she would get sick from the smoke. Amazingly, she has been resilient.

Living through The Great Depression, World War II, floods, terrorist attacks, and personal family tragedy in her eighty-nine years of life I’m sure has helped her cope. She knows we will make it through. Watching her through all of the chaos this week I was reminded of what Jesus said…

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” ~John 16:33 NIV

Freda for sure has seen her fair share of troubles through the years. When I told her this week people back in West Virginia were without power and water for days she just shrugged and said, “Well it would have reminded me of growing up. I didn’t have electricity and running water until I was a teenager. Hope they make the best of it. It won’t last forever.”

Troubles and peace. Two things we are promised in this life.

Once again, grandma Freda has been put in my life to give me perspective and hope. While things sometime seem dark all around, I know that I can always rest in the peace of that Jesus has overcome the world and we will see bright days ahead.

Thanks for this reminder grandma.

  1. Good thoughts, Julie. And I needed Grandma Freda’s perspective too!
