Friday with Freda ~ You Are Never Too Old For A New Adventure

“This is the most beautiful place I have ever been!”

That is what she told me as we strolled around looking up at the beautiful red rock formations pressed against a crystal blue sky.

This week we packed up the family and Grandma in the Jeep and headed to Garden of the Gods. If you live in Colorado Springs, Garden of the Gods is a staple attraction where you to take out-of-town family and guests. If you have time to only do one thing, this is it. Words can’t describe it, the landscape is simply stunning.

She.Loved.It. We walked around for almost an hour and she could not get enough of the warm weather, the images and the day and the simple pleasure of being out enjoying herself. I think because it was so sunny, she could actually see and sense the beauty around her.

Then Jeff decided to take her off-road. I’m not kidding. We actually took her Jeeping. Nothing major, just some minor trails off Rampart Range Road, but again, she was tickled. We could hear her giggling in the back of the Jeep as we bumped along on the trails. It reminded me of the scene at the end of Return of the King, where Bilbo starts to get a little giddy when he sees the ship Gandalf has arranged for him to take with the elves to leave Middle Earth. Proving that age does not detract from our human desire for adventure and wonder.

We capped off this perfect day with ice cream and donuts at the Donut Mill. When we started to head home, she made sure to tell me that it was the most fun she had had in a long long time. Turns out, you are never too old for a new adventure.
