Friday with Freda ~ Somethings You Are Never Too Old To Try

Since my Grandma Freda moved in with us last year, there have been a multitude of “firsts” for her. It started with her first trip ever on an airplane to move to Colorado with us. She still talks about the journey and hopefully it wasn’t her last plane ride! There are just some things you are never too old to try I guess.

Here is just some of the things she has proved you are never to old to try since moving in with our crazy family:

1. Jeff convinced Grandma to ride in his Jeep with the top off. She LOVED it, and can’t wait to do it again this Summer.

2. She along with our whole family tried spaghetti squash for the first time when we started eating healthier thanks to Jeff’s Crazy Idea. She really liked it.

3. She hadn’t tried Celestial Seasonings Tea before. Now she is addicted to Cinnamon Apple Spice and Country Peach Passion. My goal is to get her up to Boulder when the weather gets warmer to take the Celestial Tea Factory Tour. That will be a fun field trip for the whole family I’m sure!

4. Freda moved to CO and is now sharing a room with our daughter, her great grand daughter, Jessa. These two gals had no relationship prior to last year, and have now become as thick as thieves. The grace in which they both take each new day learning from each other is a life-changing experience that neither would have had if things didn’t work out the way they did. Not to mention the model my daughter has been to me in teaching me how to be a more selfless and caring person. More on this topic later. Queue the tears.

5. For the first time ever in her life, Grandma visited a a national park last fall. Our family spends as much down-time as possible in Rocky Mountain National Park. We were so excited to share with her this beautiful place. Even though she couldn’t see the beauty around her, I know she could feel it. She loved the animals and the car ride up to Estes Park. We hope to get her up there again soon.

If you ever needed a swift kick in the pants to stop saying you are to old to try something new, let this post be that kick. If Freda can try new things at eighty nine, so can you.

So what are you waiting for?  What would you like to try that you have told yourself you are too old to do?

Comments

  1. Oh, Julie, I loved this! So sweet and so many lessons in all those vignettes!

  2. I LOVE that picture of you and Grandma Freda in the Jeep. I hope you’ve printed and framed it!

I am so thankful and proud that you and Jeff opened your home to Grandma Freda. It’s such a God-thing to turn such a grief-filled situation into such a blessing for her & the four of you. I love it when He does that!
